Genetic Data

is personal data relating to the inherited or acquired genetic characteristics of a person which result from the analysis of a biological sample from the person in question, in particular chromosomal, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA) analysis, or from the analysis of another element enabling equivalent information to be obtained. Glossary Framework

is an Architecture Framework that provides standards and best practices on maintenance of terms.

Health Data

is Personal Data includes all data pertaining to the health status of a person which reveal information relating to the past, current or future physical or mental health status of the person. This includes information about the person collected in the course of the registration for, or the provision of, health care services, a number, symbol or particular assigned to a person to uniquely identify the person for health purposes; information derived from the testing or examination of a body part or bodily substance, including from genetic data and biological samples; and any information on, for example, a disease, disability, disease risk, medical history, clinical treatment or the physiological or biomedical state of the data subject independent of its source, for example from a physician or other health professional, a hospital, a medical device or an in vitro diagnostic test. Hierarchical Data Model

is a data model that enables tree like structures to exist within the data. This modelling technique still allows for reuse of structures to enable re-use and is most commonly used in messaging formats for data interchange.

is a person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person (1)

is a Concept which corresponds to only one object

is a standard that represents Metadata content across organizations.

Industry Standard

is a collection of standards that are recognized across organizations within an Industry sector.

Information Architecture

is the architecture that provides the strategy, design and execution plan for the information analytics to support enterprise objectives.

is a Control used to verify, validate and edit data to ensure that only correct data is entered.

Interface Data Flow

is the Data Flow between an Application and an Application Interface.

Internal Control

is a process, effected by the entity's board of directors, management and other personnel, designed to provide reasonable assurance regarding the achievement of objectives.


is an Industry Metadata Standard that is an international standard for representing metadata for an organization in a metadata registry. The standard is also known as ISO/IEC11179. The 11179 standard is a multipart standard that includes the following parts:

Describes how to manage a classification scheme in a metadata registry.


Provides the basic conceptual model, including the basic attributes and relationships, for a metadata registry.


Rules and guidelines for forming quality definitions for data elements and their components.


Describes how to form conventions for naming data elements and their components.


Specifies the roles and requirements for the registration process in an ISO11179 metadata registry


is the ISO11179 part that describes the Metamodel for data set registration.


is an Industry Standard that is the ISO financial industry message scheme (which used to be also called "UNIFI") that is the international standard which defines the ISO platform for the development of financial message standards. It uses a business modelling approach allows users and developers to represent financial business processes and underlying transactions in a formal but syntax-independent notation.


is an Industry Metadata Standard that is the international standard for thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies. This consists of two parts:
- ISO25964-1 - Thesauri for information retrieval
- ISO25964-2 - Interoperability with other vocabularies


covers all aspects of developing a thesaurus, monolingual or multilingual. It has replaced the previous standards ISO 2788 and ISO 5964.


covers new ground not previously addressed in any standard. Its main aim is to encourage high quality information retrieval across networked resources that have been indexed with different vocabularies. It explains how to set up mappings between the concepts in such vocabularies, and other forms of complementary use.

IT Application

is an Application that is managed by the IT organization.

Key Business Element

is a Business Element that is deemed important to one or more business processes.

Key Data Element

is a Data Element that is aligned to a Key Business Element (KBE) and is therefore deemed important for the Business Context associated with the Data Element.

Knowledge Organization System

is a generic term used in knowledge organization about authority files, classification schemes, thesauri, topic maps, ontologies etc.

is a data-analysis technique used to evaluate relationships (connections) between nodes within a given area and determine if the relationship is material within a given scenario.

Commonly confused with Data Traceability.

Logical Data Model

is a Data Model that is based on the data concepts that has all data attributes and relationships required to support the business process independent of any particular technology or solution.

Manual Control

is a Control performed by a person without making direct use of automated systems.


is Data that defines and describes other Data.

Metadata Framework

is an Architecture Framework that provides information on what metadata needs to be stored, and where.

Metadata Registry

is a Knowledge Organization System that is a information system for registering metadata, also referred to as MDR.

Metadata Set

Any organized collection of Metadata associated with a Data Set.


is a Data Model that specifies one or more other models


is an Industry Standard that is the Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization. MISMO® is the standards development body for the mortgage industry. MISMO developed a common data language for exchanging information for the residential finance industry. See for more details.

is a Term that should not be used, and should be replaced with the Preferred Term.
